Experimental study on downward/opposed flame spread and extinction over electric wires in partial gravity environments

چکیده

Downward/opposed flame spread over laboratory wire samples under varied gravity conditions were investigated in the range from 0 G to 1 G. Reduced experiments are conducted by parabolic flights of an airplane. Limiting oxygen concentrations (LOCs) and rates (Vf) obtained as a function level, with concentration, forced flow velocity, characteristics such insulation thickness core material experimental variables. The used this study consist low-density polyethylene (LDPE) metallic cores. Copper (Cu) nickel-chrome (NiCr) selected materials. It is found that effect on flammability varies thermal conductivity core; LOCs Cu sample less affected gravity, while those NiCr decrease decreasing level. On other hand, Vf increase monotonically increasing level sample, show peak value low conditions. suggested these differences response due difference materials controlled fuel concentration reaction zone, which Vf. also molten LDPE produced during process shows unique behaviors depending levels characteristics. Some dynamic motion process, deformation dripping, summarized paper. data provide useful information partial environment will serve database for fire safety design future space exploration.

Title of Document: Upward Flame Spread Over Discrete Fuels Colin H. Miller, Master of Science, 2014 Directed By: Dr. Michael J. Gollner, Assistant Professor, Department of Fire Protection Engineering Upward flame spread over discrete fuels has been analyzed through experimental research on vertical arrays of alternating lengths of PMMA and insulation. By manipulating the lengths of the PMMA fue...

Radiation-Driven Flame Spread Over Thermally-Thick Fuels in Quiescent Microgravity Environments

Microgravity experiments on flame spread over thermally-thick fuels were conducted using foam fuels to obtain low density and thermal conductivity, and thus large spread rate (Sf) over thermally-thick fuels compared to dense fuels such as PMMA. This scheme enabled meaningful results to be obtained even in 2.2 second drop tower experiments. It was found that, in contrast conventional understandi...

Experimental Study of Aluminum Particle Flame Evolution in Normal and Micro-Gravity

This research addresses the flame structure of single aluminum particles burning in air with the emphasis on the transition from spherically symmetric to non-symmetric combustion regime. The unique feature of this work is that free motionless aluminum particles were produced and ignited in both normal and microgravity environments. That allowed us to observe whether the particle flame non-symme...

a study on rate making and required reserves determination in reinsurance market: a simulation

reinsurance is widely recognized as an important instrument in the capital management of an insurance company as well as its risk management tool. this thesis is intended to determine premium rates for different types of reinsurance policies. also, given the fact that the reinsurance coverage of every company depends upon its reserves, so different types of reserves and the method of their calc...
